As a winter storm battered the Southern United States, we too in Saipan experienced a weather phenomenon of epic proportions.
Roads were closed, power was shut off, tow-trucks were stopped in their tracks, and kids were wearing hooded sweatshirts and close-toed shoes.

Snow? No!
Tornado? No.
Typhoon? No.
THREE..count them…THREE…
that’s right…THREE…straight days of rain!!!
I know what you're thinking. Yes, we were double-checking our Mayan doomsday prophecies (It’s 2011, not 2012, right?). The reliable 87 to 77 temperature range had been shaken up. Flux capacetors were fixed, the streams were crossed. Saipan as we know it was turned upside down. Kids were wearing hoodies and actual shoes (not sandals) to school (their “winter” wardrobe). We had two extra malnourished boonie dogs show up on our porch. Our car malfunctioned. Our mechanic couldn’t tow it because it was “too wet” outside. Our rental car (while our car was being/is being fixed) got a flat. The courthouse lost power (actually, it was shut off – see our earlier blog post about unpaid bills) and was running on a generator. All in all, an epic couple of days. For just a couple of days we were forced to deal with.. (gulp)… reality! Pray for us as we wait for paradise to resume normal programming.
